The Planning Inspectorate have stated that the Development Consent Order (DCO) Application made by EPL001 Limited for the Stonestreet Green generating station was received on the 11th June. The project is now at the acceptance stage and the decision whether to accept the application for examination will be made by 9th July 2024.
As part of this acceptance stage the Planning Inspectorate will seek representations from Ashford Borough Council (ABC) and Kent County Council regarding the adequacy of consultation.
Unfortunately, we understand that ABC are minded to report that the consultation was adequate, but will append the Aldington and Mersham Support Groups’ views on the adequacy of consultation to their submission.
It is apparently ABC’s view that EPl001 could not have done much more consultation, with the public meetings and website hosting they provided.
In our view EPL001 have not met their obligations under section 47 of the 2008 Planning Act, which requires EPL001 to provide sufficient information so that the community can make informed comments and have an input into the design of the scheme. EPL001 have not provided the necessary, requested nor relevant information to the community and have not sought its input into the design.
Interested parties will be able to register their interest once the application has been submitted and will have a minimum of 28 days to do so. In conjunction with the Aldington and Mersham Parish Councils, we will host a series of workshops to help members of the community register their interest.
EPL001 will host a Community Liaison Panel Meeting on the 20th June, where we understand they plan to provide information on the planning process. Jonathan Tennant will attend the CLP meeting on behalf of AMSG and we will keep you posted on the key points.
Once we have seen the application, we plan to hold a Community Meeting at Aldington Village Hall, where we will present our initial views of the application and seek feedback from the most affected communities of Aldington, Mersham and Smeeth as well as all other interested parties. We anticipate that this meeting will take place in mid-July.
