We have been notified today (16th May) that the next Community Liaison Panel meeting for the proposed Stonestreet Green Solar generating station will be held on Thursday 20th June and that this meeting will be after the submission of the Development Consent Order application. The Aldington and Mersham Support Group will be ready to digest the detail contained within this application whenever it arrives and will share our findings as soon as possible. It will be interesting to see how it compares with the last iteration and what account has been taken of the huge number of representations. In particular:
- Have they addressed the Setting of their scheme in the landscape or, like the recently refused EDF scheme, do they still include much of it on highly visible hillside areas on the Aldington Ridge?
- Have they looked again at the impact the scheme will have on Best and Most Versatile land and by ingenuity (panel specification, panel configuration and density) have they devised a more efficient, less land hungry scheme?
- Have they now come clean about the true performance of their scheme and explained all the things we should have had explained to us during the consultation phase?
- Have they now provided full details about the role of batteries, the other options for energy storage they looked at, the safety of the specification they have decided upon and what happens when there is a battery fire?
We will need to know the answer to these questions and many others, but above all we remain of the view that communities of Aldington and Mersham have been denied an adequate consultation. Because of that we demand that EPL001 is required by the Planning Inspectorate to run a further consultation, this time one which is open and meaningful so that the communities that stand to be affected by the scheme can reach an informed view and have a material impact on its final design.
